QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

How much does a puppy cost?

The cost per puppy is $900 for Limited AKC registration.  Full AKC registration is also available for $1200.  A $200 non-refundable deposit will hold the puppy of your choice.  The deposit can be paid by way of check.  The remaining is due at pick-up and must be paid in cash.

Can I send in my deposit to hold a puppy?

Yes you can.  However, we do not accept deposits towards puppies until we know that our females are pregnant.  Please remember also that once you send in a deposit for a puppy, it is non-refundable.

What all is included in the purchase?

Puppy, AKC registration paperwork, puppy pedigree chart, vet paperwork, and small bag of dog food.

What type of AKC registration do the puppies come with?

All puppies are sold with AKC Limited Registration.  Limited Registration means that the dog is registered but no litters produced by that dog are eligible for registration with the AKC.  Full registration, which allows you to breed your puppy and make the puppies registerable with the AKC, is available for an extra cost.

Do you offer a health guarantee?

Yes, we offer a guarantee for each puppy that it will be free from congenital or genetic disorders provided you maintain regular vet check-ups.  See below for Puppy Health Guarantee.

When can I visit the parents?

Absolutely.  We would be happy to have you come out and visit our home and see the parents as well as where the puppies will be born and raised until they are ready to go home.

When can I visit my puppy?

To maintain the health and well being of each puppy and the mother, no visitation or handling of the puppies is allowed until the puppies are approximately 10 days old.

What vet checks are done for the puppy?

At 3 days old, the puppies are taken in for a vet visit where their tails are docked, dew claws removed, and are given a puppy wellness check.  At 5 weeks old they are given their first set of vaccinations.

When can my puppy come home?

At 8 weeks old.

Breeding information from the AKC...

What ages can a dam and sire breed?

AKC Rules do not allow the registration of a litter out of a dam less than 8 months or more than 12 years of age at the time of mating, or by a sire less than 7 months or more than 12 years of age at the time of mating.

How often can you breed a dam?

Responsible breeders generally do not breed a bitch at the first heat to avoid imposing the stress of pregnancy and lactation on a young, growing animal. It is also customary to avoid breeding a bitch on consecutive heats to allow sufficient time for recuperation between pregnancies.

Why don't you have a Wisconsin state license to sell puppies?

Wisconsin law states only those breeders producing more than 25 puppies per calendar year are required to be licensed.  We generally only produce 2 litters per year with an average of ten puppies per litter.  However, we have been inspected on-site by a representative from the AKC, as well as had DNA tests performed on our dogs.

Storyside Springers Puppy Health Guarantee

Although no one can truly guarantee that a puppy will not be afflicted with hip dysplasia or congenital eye disorders or any other hereditary diseases, I can guarantee that I have researched the pedigrees to the best of my abilities. It is my goal to reduce the odds of producing a defective pup and at the same time preserve the breeds’ natural standards. With that being said, I offer this guarantee provided the purchaser complies with the stated requirements.

Your English Springer Spaniel puppy comes with a full guarantee that covers any genetic or inherited problem, which would prevent the dog’s hips from being certified by the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA) or the dogs eye's from being certified by Canine Eye Registration Foundation, Inc. (CERF).

For the Health Guarantee to be in effect, you will need to take your pup to your veterinarian within five days of delivery (pick-up) for a well-puppy check-up. This is to ensure that the pup is healthy and sound at the time that you receive him/her. If the pup is found to be unhealthy or unsound at the time of arrival, the pup can be returned to me at your expense with a written explanation from your veterinarian along with all the paperwork.  This guarantee is applicable to the original owner and is non-transferable.

The pup’s eyes are guaranteed to be CERF certifiable by 24 months of age. The diagnosis must be made by a Board Certified Veterinary Ophthalmologist.

The pup’s hips are guaranteed to be OFA certifiable at 24 months of age. X-rays must be taken by a Board certified Veterinarian between 24 and 26 months of age.

If any puppy purchased is found to have a congenital, inherited eye disorder or hip dysplasia that prevents certification, the buyer will be given a replacement puppy of comparable breeding and price.

It is understood that this guarantee covers congenital, hereditary defects. Any physical accident, improper nutrition or injury to the dog voids this guarantee.  For this guarantee to remain in effect, buyer must bring their dog into the vet for regular checkups and stay up to date with all shots and vaccinations.  All records must up to date and be made available to Storyside Springers.
